Where and when should we have a PFA meeting in 2023?

It’s probably too late to schedule a meeting for March or April. And I am out West for the month of May (and OBTW probably October, too). Although the meeting can certainly happen without me. But prime time for me would be June to September. It’s easiest to just meet at Mount Pleasant Church, although some folks have expressed an interest in attending a Scottish Festival in conjunction with the meeting. Personally, I’m interested in the one in DC around Labor Day, although I understand some folks’ reluctance to go near DC on a National holiday weekend. I may attend it anyway.

So, I’m looking for suggestions and alternatives for our meeting. If you want to post a suggestion publicly, you can do it here. If you want to suggest privately, you can email me at PaisleyFAweb@gmail.com, and I’ll offer your suggestion without your name attached. As always, I’ll go first (and hopefully not “only” this time around). I suggest we have a summertime weekend picnic in or around Mount Pleasant Church with “hand-made ice cream and croquet” (smile–that’s a joke, but you get the idea). Let me know what you want to do!

Thanks! Don Paisley, President, PFA

  1. Hello Fellow Association Members, it looks like I’ll be the first to stick my toe into the water! It seems we are very shy to foster up to new ways and ideas. The website can work but it will take active members to react to it and use it.

With that said I’ll comment on Don’s post about meeting locations and dates for this years reunion. For years we have discussed this very subject to some length. The best dates have been during late spring, summer and early fall. I’m happy with any of them; but I do need some lead time if you use the church fellowship hall as it must be reversed months in advance. It was decided years ago that we should alternate between NC and VA for our annual meeting locations. This worked well until several years ago when our meeting environment changed when we lost the use of the Ruritan Club House that Don Jones used to reserve for us as the VA location and the onset of the Coronavirus upsetting our reunion schedule for several years. The last few times we’ve met in NC was at Mount Pleasant UM Church (our reliable go to location in NC). Previously to this we would meet at Paisley Family significate locations of interest. We have tried combining our reunion with a Scottish Highland Games in the past producing only marginal attendance results and acceptance from our membership.

Now to selecting a location for this year. Historically it should be a VA location for this years reunion. I’m open to any site you select…so lets get the conversation going.
